Teen Mentoring

If you are a teenager, and especially if you are in high school, you know about the stresses that so often go along with this stage of life.  And if you are a parent of teenager, you probably relive these stresses everyday through the experiences of your child.  One central source of confusion that can arise for many teens at this age are new, burning questions about who they are, what the meaning of life is, and what their particular purpose is.  Not all teens are interested in such “deep” questions.  But some are.  And for those who are, and for the parents of these reflective teens, the most important message that I can deliver is this:  “These existential questions are important!”  They are vitally important, and addressing them around the time they first arise can set the stage for a very fulfilled, enlivened, purposeful, and concerned human life.  Unfortunately, not addressing these questions can result in a subtle resentment, bitterness, and confusion that may ferment at the bottom of a person for a very long time.

In large part, this awakening to questions about who and what we are makes the teen years an extremely potent stage of life.  With helpful, understanding, encouraging support the teen years may provide the greatest opportunity for healthy growth and self-understanding in a person’s entire life.  However, such questions cannot be answered satisfactorily without a deep and personal investigation.  They cannot be answered only in terms of a career that “makes sense” or an intellectual “philosophy of life” that holds all the pieces together.  Both of these are important components of healthy human life, but to get to the root of the where these questions are coming from requires a very sincere, heartfelt, honest, and sometimes vulnerable, experiential investigation into the basic dimensions of who we are (All of Who You Are).  I know that if I had a mentor at this time in my life, who had been able to point me to All of who I Am, and help me find the resources I needed to answer these existential questions, I would have been saved years of deep pain, confusion, and alienation.  Please contact me, so that I may serve you in your exploration of these existential issues, and help you establish a life of lasting fulfillment.
